About Personal Finance Score

Personal Finance Score is an independent education site for working families in the United States, including families who moved here from other countries.

The U.S. system pays people who know its rules: employer matches, pre-tax accounts, tax credits, new programs for children. Most people never get a plain explanation. We turn those rules into tools that show the dollars, and guides that show exactly what to click and when.

What we are, and are not

  • We are an education publisher.
  • We are not a bank, lender, insurance agency, tax preparer or financial adviser, and we do not give individual advice.
  • Our Money Score is a self-check estimate, not a credit score, and lenders do not use it.

Editorial standards

  • We use primary sources first: the IRS, Treasury, federal law and official plan documents.
  • Every number shows its source and the date we checked it. When a rule changes, we update the page and the date.
  • We only publish testimonials from real users who gave permission.
  • Examples and projections are illustrations, never promises.

How the site makes money

The tools are free. Some pages may contain referral links. PFS may earn a commission if you use them, at no extra cost to you, and we say so before the link. Partners never pay for a score, a ranking or a recommendation.
